The Upcountry History Museum-Furman University, a Smithsonian Affiliate, will recognize the service and sacrifice of American veterans with a series of events scheduled throughout the week beginning Sunday, November 10, 2019. Discounted admission will be offered for veterans and all active-duty military personnel on the days of these events. On Nov. 10, the Academy Award-nominated movie, “Pride of the Marines,” will kick off special Veterans’ Week Matinee Movie screenings. At 2:00 p.m., visitors can see the 1946 film based on the World War II service of Al Schmid, a hero of Guadalcanal who was blinded by a grenade during battle. The movie follows Schmid’s struggle to accept that his life-changing wounds were worth the sacrifice.
