Doug Egerton, professor of history at Le Moyne College (Syracuse, N.Y.) will deliver the 2017 George B. Tindall Memorial Lecture in History Wednesday, Feb. 22, at 5 p.m. in Johns Hall 101.
His talk, “Thunder at the Gates: The Black Civil War Regiments That Redeemed America,” is based on the book of the same name, which was just awarded the 2017 Gilder Lehrman Lincoln Prize. The prize is awarded annually by Gettysburg College and the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History to a work that enhances the general public’s understanding of the Civil War era.
Egerton’s lecture is free and open to the public, and is presented by the Furman Department of History. It is part of Furman’s Cultural Life Program.
