CANCELLED – CLP: Tocqueville Lecture – Yuval Levin

March 24, 2020 @ 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm

Yuval Levin, of Washington’s American Enterprise Institute, will argue the crisis of liberalism we are living through is in part the result of the way both the left and the right have become reflexively hostile to institutions, from government and universities to organized religion and NGOs. The social crisis we confront, he will seek to show, is defined not by an oppressive presence but by a debilitating absence of the forces that unite us and militate against alienation. Suggesting that formative institutions help us to live well with our freedom, Levin will argue that now is not a time to tear down, but rather to build and rebuild by committing ourselves to the institutions around us. By taking concrete steps to rebuild our trust in them, we can renew the ties that bind Americans to one another.
