‘Miss Nancy’s Store’
|Furman Theatre presents Rhett Bryson’s stage adaptation of Armour’s “Twisted Tales from Shakespeare”
Before “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood” and “Sesame Street” there was a little show known as “Miss Nancy’s Store,” a production of WFSU Public Media. Short-lived, but nevertheless popular in the 1960s among children in the viewing area, the show starred local talent Nancy Tribble Benda. Several puppet characters also held starring roles, and three of the puppets were the creation and voice of Furman University’s Rhett Bryson, professor of theatre, who served as puppeteer and camera operator for WFSU while he attended Florida State University. “Local Routes” chronicles the show’s history and the integral role Bryson played in bringing joy to children over the airwaves in the afternoons.
