The value of water

Last updated April 29, 2020

By Tina Underwood

Upstate Forever’s publication, “Upstate Advocate,” includes contributions from two Furman University employees, Bruce Adams, director of the Furman Farm and John Quinn, associate professor of biology. In the magazine’s “Value of Water” issue, Adams, a fourth generation farmer, describes how Furman’s quarter-acre farm maximizes rainfall without the use of an irrigation system. Quinn and his colleagues have worked with Upstate Forever to map and identify the most critical lands for water quality protection. He and other researchers have also “captured multiple values of nature – both relative value and a simple dollar value,” Quinn wrote. See pages 10 and 15.
