Each week during the school year, a teacher is recognized by WYFF News 4 in a segment known as “The Golden Apple Award.” PollyRose Philpot, a 2017 Furman University education graduate (M.A. 2018) and second grade teacher at Sara Collins Elementary, made the grade this week. She was nominated by a grateful parent whose son is making great strides in reading under Philpot’s guidance.

Philpot hails from a family of seven children, many with ties to Furman. Two of her four sisters are teaching in Greenville County Schools. One has graduated Furman with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education, and yet another is working on her master’s in education at Furman.
