What drives her: Joanie Martin, CAO, Michelin N.A.
Joanie Martin ’90, a Furman University economics alumna, is the highest ranking woman at Michelin North America’s Greenville headquarters. Her career with the company started with a reply to a newspaper ad for an internal auditor. More than 20 years, a stint in France, and several posts later, she is Chief Administrative Officer at the company named by Forbes as one of the “Best Employers for New Grads in 2019.” She speaks to editors at “A Girls Guide to Cars” about how she matriculated from finance to engineering roles in a field that some may consider male-leaning. “I just had to get out of my own way; make sure that I was educating myself a little more, paying enough attention to our industry and that I was willing to take a few risks and do some different things,” Martin said.
