Delia B. Allen has joined the Riley Institute at Furman’s Center for Education Policy and Leadership (CEPL) as a research associate.

“We are excited to have Delia join our staff,” said Don Gordon, executive director of the Riley Institute. “Her expertise in education finance and governance structure adds a new dimension to our education research team.”

Allen will serve as the principal investigator of the College Advising Corps project and assist with the Institute’s work to help build program and evaluation capacity within nonprofits across the state. She will also be a co-investigator for the Brady Education Foundation-funded Montessori research project and will help develop the Riley Institute’s work connected to issues of school safety and equity.

Allen received her doctorate in educational administration and policy from the University of Georgia. She holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Clemson University and a master’s degree in biomedical engineering from Northwestern University. Allen also holds a master’s degree in teaching secondary mathematics from Converse College.

Established in 2005, CEPL is part of the Riley Institute at Furman. CEPL’s work centers on the belief that every child in South Carolina should have access to a quality public education that prepares them for success in the highly competitive knowledge-based economy.

CEPL works in South Carolina and nationally to promote discussion and understanding of important education issues; to expand research-based, effective education practices; to build leadership capacity among public education supporters and future leaders; and to bring together stakeholders in education, business, politics, and the public to create meaningful and sustainable change.
