Furman Director of News and Media Relations Vince Moore, who has been a member of the University Communications office since 1982, and Professor of Health Sciences William J. “Bill” Pierce, who joined the Furman faculty in 1983, have been named to the All-Southern Conference Faculty and Staff Team.

Moore is responsible for communicating with the local, regional and national media while overseeing the Furman News page. He also contributes to Furman Magazine and has served as the official scorekeeper for the men’s basketball team for 35 years.

Before coming to Furman, Moore was a sportswriter for the Greenville Piedmont and Anderson Independent-Mail, where he was the golf writer and covered teams in the ACC, SEC and Southern Conference. He is a graduate of Georgetown College in Kentucky and received a master’s in mass communication from the University of South Carolina.

Pierce chaired the health sciences department for three decades. Lead author of two books— “Runner’s World Run Less, Run Faster: Become a Faster, Stronger Runner with the Revolutionary FIRST Training Program” and “Runner’s World Train Smart, Run Forever: How to Become a Fit and Healthy Lifelong Runner by Following The Innovative 7-Hour Workout Week”—Pierce led curricular changes to the health science department’s present emphasis on wellness and health sciences.

Co-founder of the Furman Institute of Running and Scientific Training (FIRST), Pierce was listed as one of 10 marathon “supercoaches” by Runner’s World magazine and is a co-founder of community-wide health promotion programs Greenville Walks, Get Fit Greenville and Activate Greenville that preceded the present coalition, LiveWell Greenville. He serves as Furman’s faculty athletics representative and is a past president of the Southern Conference.

Moore and Pierce will be presented with a plaque and honored at a home basketball game later this season.

Selections were left up to each school’s discretion, and all 10 league member institutions were represented by two people each on the All-Southern Conference Faculty and Staff Team. For a complete listing and more information, visit FurmanPaladins.com.
