While the fallen tree has been cleared from the campus entrance off Poinsett Highway, the entrance remains closed because of downed power lines that have closed sections of Poinsett Highway. People coming to campus should use the Timmons Arena or Alley Gym gates until further notice.

The Human Resources office is closed today because of the loss of power at its off-campus office.

While the Greenville area is expecting rain and cold temperatures Wednesday night through Thursday morning, Furman does not expect its normal operations to be disrupted. The university will continue to monitor conditions and announce any changes if necessary.

According to the National Weather Service, winter storm Avery is expected to bring ice and sleet to the higher elevations of the Blue Ridge Mountains Wednesday night, primarily in North Carolina. The Greenville area is forecast to have low temperatures between 32 and 35 degrees, with no expected ice accumulation.

University Police will monitor the campus throughout Wednesday evening and Thursday morning to be sure conditions remain safe. Faculty and staff should use caution when traveling to campus.

Furman will provide updates at this site if the operating schedule should change. Students, faculty and staff will also receive text and email alerts in emergency situations.
