Furman University Undergraduate Evening Studies (UES) has presented its Outstanding Faculty Award to Rusty Copsey, vice president of Wells Fargo.

UES annually recognizes a faculty member who has demonstrated dedication and service to students, and whose expertise is praised in student feedback.

As adjunct instructor for UES since 1998, Copsey has taught advanced business administration courses such as introduction to finance and markets, financial institutions, and investment management. Copsey, who has worked in the banking industry for 27 years, has also taught in Furman’s traditional day classes and is a faculty member for the South Carolina Bankers School. He holds a bachelor’s in finance and a master’s from the University of South Carolina.

Said UES Director Beth Crews, “Rusty’s expansive knowledge adds to his ability to make class fun and engaging. His students look forward to classes because he takes time to find what is relevant to his students and uses that information to bring the subject to the real world. Rusty’s teaching style moves students to actively participate in the subject matter, and his balanced approach helps cover varied learning styles.”

Students note that Copsey is quick to respond to questions outside of class and assist in other ways. Said one student, “He took time after class to help me look at personal issues related to what we were discussing in class. I gained a new perspective on how to view my 401(k) options. Rusty has helped me make better informed decisions that will shape my future.”

Founded in 1957, Furman’s UES provides working adults the opportunity to continue their education at one the nation’s most prestigious liberal arts universities. UES offers bachelor’s degrees in accounting, business administration, and information technology, and post-baccalaureate certificates in accounting and data analytics. Courses are held in the evening, one night each week, Monday through Thursday, 6-8:45 p.m.
