Three times an intern

Crawford B. Lewis, a 2017 Furman Business and Accounting graduate, is one of many examples of why internships are a vital part of a college education. Lewis, who is working on his master’s in accountancy at Wake Forest, has a job lined up with one of the organizations for whom he interned while at Furman, Ernst & Young. Lewis also gained confirmation about his vocation through an internship he held at Furman’s business office under the leadership of Mary Lou Merkt, vice president for finance and administration.

He talks about his experiences in a Business Officer magazine Q&A with writer Margo Vanover Porter who gets Lewis’ take on university policy and decision-making. Said Lewis, “I believe students are more open to changes when they feel included in the process … Including students from the very beginning in decision-making processes benefits the institution, and allows everyone to be part of the dialogue.”
