Provost Shields meets with D.C. alumni and friends

Nearly 100 Furman alumni, parents and faculty members gathered in Washington D.C.’s Grand Hyatt Washington hotel on Jan. 25 for a special reception with Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs George Shields and Executive Director of Alumni and Parent Engagement Mike Wilson ’88. Attendees heard about ways to join the charge in supporting The Furman Advantage, which guarantees every student an unparalleled education of classroom learning combined with real-world experiences and self-discovery.

“It was a pleasure to engage our D.C. alumni and parents, as we discussed how they can take an active role in the success of The Furman Advantage,” Sheilds said. “The strength of the Furman network only furthers the measurable success of our students.”

Remarks were followed by an open floor discussion, which heavily focused on internship and mentoring opportunities for students in the D.C. marketplace. A critical aspect of The Furman Advantage is ensuring students are guided by mentors and equipped for success in academics and beyond.

D.C.’s Paladins were connected, energized and eager to plug in and help advance the university and its students.

“The ongoing success of our Furman family is a driving force behind what we do as a university,” Sheilds said.
