Benjamin Fleschler, a senior at Culver Military Academy and captain of the rugby team, has committed to Furman University and will enroll this fall.

Fleschler, the son of Kate and Rob Fleschler, will be the fourth rugby graduate of the private Indiana school to attend Furman in recent years. Turner Morsches ’15, Lucas Ward ’16 and Michael Anthony ’18 attended Culver.

A front row player, Fleschler began playing rugby his freshman year. He has also played 7s rugby for the City Athlete Rugby Club (New York City).

“I look forward to attending Furman University this fall and playing Paladin rugby,” said Fleschler. “I selected Furman because it has the perfect mix of a remarkable education, incredible athletics and amazing people.”

Furman Coach John Roberts said Fleschler should be able to compete for a starting role next year as the team will graduate props Adrian Marcogliese and Jeff Tongue. Both have been ranked among the top 50 forwards in division two.

“I am very excited to have Ben join us,” said Roberts. “He has an incredible work ethic. Moreover, he comes from a fine program. The Culver players thrive in our system and adjust well to the academic rigors of Furman.”

Furman completed the Fall season with a 14-1 record and finished national runner up.

“I’m very proud of Ben’s decision to attend Furman,” said longtime Culver Rugby Coach Darrell Knowlton.  “I look forward to seeing him develop in a demanding academic institution and first class rugby program.  It’s exciting that Ben will be the next player to add to the growing list of Culver Academy graduates that have chosen to be a Paladin.”
