On those hot, humid days when weeding a garden is the last thing on the mind, take a break and enjoy the labors of someone else’s hands. The Charlotte Observer features a list of the 12 best drive-to gardens in the Carolinas. Among them, Furman University’s Asia Garden is noted for its “unusual and tranquil beauty.” Highlights include Asia-inspired plantings like bamboo, Japanese maples and varieties if iris. Overlooking it all is Place of Peace with its signature Japanese temple whose 2,400 pieces were assembled by Japanese craftsmen without using a single nail.
