A Big Boost for a Local Public School

Legacy Charter School in Greenville has received $13.7 million in New Markets Tax Credits to help fund the construction and renovation of the school’s facilities.  Furman health sciences professor Julian Reed is actively involved in the daily life of Legacy Charter, the only public school in South Carolina that offers daily physical education for all students.  Reed’s studies over the past few years have consistently demonstrated that Charter Legacy’s students show significant improvement in cognitive and fitness measurements as compared to control groups in other schools that do not have daily physical education.
