Noted historian, author David McCullough to speak at American History Book Club

David McCullough’s latest book is The Wright Brothers.

Historian and best-selling author David McCullough, a two-time winner of both the Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award, will speak on “Leadership and the History You Don’t Know” Thursday, April 16 at 7 p.m. at The Poinsett Club in Greenville.

Sponsored by the American History Book Club and Furman University, “An Evening with David McCullough” will include a 5:30 p.m. reception and book signing with the author.  Tickets for the lecture are $100 per person; tickets for the reception are an additional $75.

Widely acclaimed as a “master of the art of narrative history” and “a matchless writer,” McCullough’s best-selling and award-winning books include 1776, John Adams, The Johnstown Flood, Mornings on Horseback, and Truman.  A new book, The Wright Brothers, will be published in May 2015.

In addition to winning the Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award, McCullough has received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian award. His work has been translated and published in 15 countries around the world, and more than 10 million copies of his book are in print.

McCullough has been honored with the National Book Foundation Distinguished Contribution to American Letters Award, the National Humanities Medal and the Gold Medal for Biography given by the American Academy of Arts and Letters. He has been elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, as well as the American Academy of Arts and Letters.  He is the recipient of 52 honorary degrees from colleges and universities.

McCullough has lectured in all parts of the country and abroad, as well as at the White House.  He is also one of the few private citizens to speak before a joint session of Congress.
