Furman music professors present concert Sept. 23

The Furman Faculty Chamber Music Series will present a concert Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 8 p.m. in Daniel Memorial Chapel on campus.

Open to the public, “A Fisk Jubilee” is part of a year-long series of events celebrating the 10th anniversary of the installation of the C.B. Fisk organ (Opus 121) at Furman. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, and $5 for students/youth.

Part of Furman’s Sound Quality Concert Series, the concert features music performed by the following Furman faculty members:

• Anita Burroughs-Price, harp
• Omar Carmenates, marimba
• David Gross, piano
• Christopher Hutton, violoncello
• Deirdre Hutton, violin
• Gary Malvern, trumpet
• Charles Tompkins, organ

The evening includes works by Antonio Soler, Marcel Grandjany, Osvaldo Golijov, Ludwig van Beethoven, and Graham Farrell, and will be hosted by Furman Music Professor Laura E. Kennedy who joined the Furman faculty in 2012.

A musicologist specializing in 20th century music and Russian studies, Dr. Kennedy holds a bachelor’s degree in music from Wheaton College and a PhD in historical musicology from the University of Michigan.
