Adam Scheuch ’98 knew when he was a still a student himself he wanted to teach. It was a fire fueled by a fundamental drive to “touch the life of an individual in a positive way,” as he told the Greenville News.

Two decades later, that’s exactly what he’s doing—so well, in fact, that he was recently named the Greenville County Schools’ Teacher of the Year for 2014–15.

Scheuch, who has been the band director at Mauldin High School since 2004, was selected by five judges for the award from a pool of 95 teachers of the year from every school in Greenville County. A trumpet player, he started giving lessons to middle school students when he was still in high school before earning a bachelor’s of music degree in instrumental education from Furman and a master’s in music education from VanderCook College of Music in Chicago.
