Does the “perfect woman” really exist?

Only five percent of women have the body type seen in almost all advertising, and most fashion models are thinner than 98 percent of American women. And there is little that is happening to change these unattainable ideals, or to simply expose them, which is why women get the idea that body image is always the most important pursuit in life. Furman student Lyla Allen, a communication studies major from Greenville, writes in an op-ed for The Greenville News that it’s time for a different message.
