NeedtoBreathe, the band led by 2003 Furman graduate Bear Rinehart, released its new album, Rivers in the Wasteland, on April 15. The record immediately moved to No. 1 on the iTunes Top Albums, and the band’s upcoming tour of the United States and Canada will include appearances on the Ellen DeGeneres Show (April 18) and the Late Show with David Letterman (April 23).

Rinehart started the band with fellow Furman alum and drummer Joe Stillwell ’03 when the two were at Furman. Rinehart, however, was better known then as one of Furman’s best football players. During his senior season, the wide receiver caught a record 70 passes and averaged 14.9 yards per punt return on the way to receiving the Greenville Touchdown Club’s Banks McFadden South Carolina Player-of-the-Year Award. He finished his Furman tenure as the program’s all-time leading receiver with 126 catches for 1,834 yards and 11 touchdowns.
