Want to predict college volleyball tournament outcomes, or evaluate field goal kicker performance? How about number crunching the rate of significant events in hockey matches based on the number of players on the ice?

The statistical answers to these questions and more will be discussed at the day-long Carolinas Sports Analytics Meeting (CSAM) that will take place Saturday, April 12 in Patrick Lecture Hall located in the Townes Center for Science on the Furman University campus.

Designed to promote undergraduate and graduate research in sports analytics, CSAM is sponsored by Furman’s Department of Mathematics. The meeting is open to the mathematical, business and sports communities as well as other interested participants. Registration, which includes lunch, is $25.

Keynote speakers for the conference are Peter Keating, writer for ESPN The Magazine and ESPN.com, and Jason Rosenfeld, Director of Basketball Analytics for the Charlotte Bobcats.

The meeting features a number of speaker and poster sessions that analyze everything from college conference tournament design to NFL team parity and season strength.

The deadline for talk or poster submission is Monday, March 31. Registration remains open after this date, but acceptance of talks/posters is contingent on space considerations.
