With the seventh and 20th picks in the MLS SuperDraft, FC Dallas took two players it didn’t think would be available at those spots. At No. 7, FCD took Walker Zimmerman, a 19-year-old Generation Adidas defender from Furman—a player one team official thought would go much earlier in the draft.

“I’m extremely happy. We had him rated very high,” FCD technical director Fernando Clavijo said. “He’s a quality individual who size-wise is amazing. He does extremely well with the ball. He’s a good guy, and it can only help us in the back.”

A Georgia native, Zimmerman played two seasons for Furman.  A two-time NSCAA All-American and two-time all-conference performer, the defender was ranked tops among center backs available in the 2013 SuperDraft by MLSSoccer.com.
