Brian Goess, along with his research students Brooks Duff and Tyler Abbe, published “A Multi-step Synthesis Featuring Classic Carbonyl Chemistry for the Advanced Organic Chemistry Laboratory” in The Journal of Chemical Education. This simple, economical laboratory sequence can be used by any chemistry department to introduce students to the challenges of natural product synthesis. Goess also gave an invited research lecture at Converse College titled “Total Synthesis and Biological Activity of Hibiscone C” and presented two lectures at the National Meeting of the American Chemical Society.
