Weilun Xu, the founder of Furman’s ping pong club, was named Club Sport Athlete of the Year last Wednesday. Xu, a senior, won the National Collegiate Table Tennis Association’s (NCTTA) Georgia Division in January. He compiled a 2-4 record at the NCTTA South Regionals in March. At nationals, held April 13-14 in Plano, Texas, Xu finished a respectable second in the tournament’s consolation bracket, which included 27 competitors. Blake Campbell’s video of Xu captures a recent training session. Campbell also interviews Xu and teammates Robert Barnes and Pierre-Olivier Cote. See the video.
