Furman presents opera double bill: Puccini’s Sister Angelica, Moore’s Devil and Daniel Webster

GREENVILLE, S.C.—The Furman Opera, Furman Symphony Orchestra, and Furman Chamber Choir will present a double bill featuring Puccini’s Sister Angelica and Moore’s The Devil and Daniel Webster on Thursday, Feb. 16 and Saturday, Feb. 18 at 8 p.m. in McAlister Auditorium.

Tickets are $20 for general admission, $15 for seniors 60 and older, and $10 for students. The operas are performed in English and suitable for all ages.

Bruce Schoonmaker directs the operas with Thomas Joiner conducting the Furman Opera Orchestra and singing actors. Chorus master is Hugh Floyd.

In fully staged performances, Sister Angelica presents a tale of forgiveness and redemption, followed by The Devil and Daniel Webster which reveals a spirited story of steadfastness and love of liberty.

Cast members include Elizabeth Beeson, ‘12 (Greenville) who portrays the Mistress of Novices in Sister Angelica. Katie Atkinson, ‘12 (Greenville) plays the steadfast Mary Stone in The Devil and Daniel Webster along with Chase McAbee, ‘12 (Blue Ridge) who plays the dastardly Scratch.
