South Carolina freshmen Congressmen to discuss their experiences tonight on campus

GREENVILLE, S.C.—Freshmen U.S. House of Representatives members Jeff Duncan (R-District 3), Trey Gowdy (R-District 4), and Mick Mulvaney (R-District 5) will participate in a roundtable discussion about their impressions of Congress on Monday, Oct. 31 at 7 p.m. in the Younts Conference Center on the Furman University campus.

“Reflections on Congress,” will be moderated by Furman Political Science Professor Danielle Vinson, whose department hosts the event. The roundtable is free and open to the public and is part of Furman’s Cultural Life Program events.

As freshmen Congressmen, the members will focus on their first impressions – biggest surprises, challenges and disappointments. The three will offer their insights about the perception that Congress is “broken,” the degree of polarization among parties, the necessity of compromise in the legislative process, and how the members view the concept of representation. A question-and-answer session will follow the discussion.
