GREENVILLE, S.C.–Cynthia Barnett, a newspaper and magazine journalist, will speak with a panel of experts about “A Water Ethic for South Carolina” Monday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. in Furman University’s Patrick Lecture Hall, Townes Science Center.

Water ethics includes avoiding past water mistakes, living within our water means, and embracing “local water.”  The event is co-sponsored by Furman’s David E. Shi Center for Sustainability and the Greenville Chamber of Commerce.

In addition to Barnett, the panel features John Tynan of Upstate Forever, Furman Earth and Environmental Sciences professor Brannon Andersen, Chief Executive Officer of Greenville Water David Bereskin, Director of Operations at Renewable Water Resources Glen McManus, and Gene McCall, a Greenville attorney practicing water and environmental law.  They will address issues in the context of South Carolina’s specific water resources and challenges.

Barnett is the author of Blue Revolution: Unmaking America’s Water Crisis, the first book to call for a water ethic for America.  A newspaper and magazine journalist for 25 years, Barnett has reported on freshwater issues from the Suwannee River to Singapore.
