Isai Jess Muñoz, tenor and assistant professor of voice and opera at the University of Delaware, will present a recital Sunday, Feb. 24, at 8 p.m. in Daniel Recital Hall on the Furman University campus.

The concert, “Visca L’Amor! A Celebration of Art Song from Catalunya,” is free and open to the public and is presented by the Furman Department of Music.

Piano and voice collaborator Oksana Glouchko will accompany Muñoz.

Muñoz will be accompanied by acclaimed Russian-Israeli piano and vocal collaborator Oksana Glouchko. During their visit to campus, Muñoz and Glouchko will lead master classes with Furman music students.

The recital features classical songs of Catalunya, whose music was repressed as a result of Francisco Franco’s regime when the dictator banned Catalan, the native language of the autonomous Spanish community. The program includes music by 20th and 21st century composers Manuel De Falla, Frederic Mompou, Eduard Toldra, Elisenda Fábregas and Joan Comellas.

Praised by The New York Times for “crucially, deftly navigating the border of genuine emotion through his singing,” Muñoz enjoys a full schedule of opera, concerts and recitals, performing repertoire from the Renaissance and Baroque periods to the 21st century.

He has appeared with leading ensembles and companies around the world including the Israel Philharmonic, the New York Philharmonic, New York City Opera, Cincinnati Opera, Mostly Mozart Festival at Lincoln Center, the Grammy-Winning Voices of Ascension, Verbier Music Festival of Switzerland and Bard Music Festival, among others.

His collaboration with Iranian composer Hafez Nazeri can be heard on Sony Classical’s album, “Rumi Symphony Project Untold,” which was twice ranked Billboard’s #1 Classical Album (2013). Learn more at www.JessMunoz.com.

Glouchko has led a multi-faceted career as a soloist, chamber player and teacher, winning praise for lending her interpretive voice to the great classics of the piano repertoire, from Bach and Mozart to Rachmaninov and Ravel.

Glouchko has appeared as soloist at Switzerland’s Bloney Festival, Mozart Fest in Valetta, Malta, and the International Festival and Institute at Round Top in the United States.

Recent engagements include those with Chile Symphony Orchestra, Rishon-Lezion Symphony Orchestra, and the Carter Symphony Orchestra of Tel Aviv. She is a winner of the Claudio Arrau International Competition in Chile, the National Competition of Russian Composers and the Glinka National Piano Competition in Smolensk.
