Furman University’s Marching Band, The Paladin Regiment, will present its annual Band Extravaganza concert Friday, Sept. 28, at 8 p.m. in McAlister Auditorium on campus.

The concert is open to the public and is held in conjunction with Family Weekend at the university. Admission is $5 at the door.

Under the direction of Furman’s Jay Bocook, the Paladin Regiment will perform the set list from the band’s 2018 Exhibition Show “British Invasion,” which explores the music of iconic rock bands from the United Kingdom.

This performance will present Furman arrangements of Led Zeppelin’s hit “Kashmir,” Men Without Hats’ “Safety Dance,” and the Beatles’ “Eleanor Rigby.”

The Paladin Regiment will also perform traditional Furman tunes such as the “Furman Fight Song,” the “Victory Song” and the “Alma Mater.” The group will honor the country with settings of “America the Beautiful” and “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Also making an appearance are favorite stand charts “Hey Baby,” “Gimme Some Lovin’,” and “Jungle Boogie.”

The Paladin Regiment, led by Drum Majors Raven Althouse (Class of 2020) and Jake Henjes (Class of 2021), will showcase the Furman Dance Company, which will perform choreography to stand tunes “You Can Call Me Al” by Paul Simon, “Land of a Thousand Dances” made famous by Wilson Pickett, and “Uptown Funk” by Bruno Mars. Featured twirler, Katiemarie Owen (Class of 2022), will entertain during selected numbers throughout the program.

The Paladin Regiment is one of six major ensembles in the Furman Band program. In addition to performing at each home football game, the band has been invited to perform at the South Carolina Band Directors Association 4-A Marching Band Championships in Columbia Oct. 27. The season wraps with the band’s appearance at the Greenville Christmas Parade Saturday, Dec. 1.
