Today is Dins Day!

Dins Day helps raise money for the university and its students.

Furman University is reaching out to its alumni, parents and friends from around the world today as the school celebrates “Dins Day” on the last day of classes.

Dins Day is a 24-hour celebration where all members of the Furman community (alumni, parents, students, faculty and friends) are encouraged to wear purple, join the party online or at a local event, and broadcast their Paladin Pride through social media (using #DinsDay), all to help raise money to support the university’s future students.

Last year’s Dins Day blitz was supported by 1,700 individual gifts totaling more than $1 million. Together, the two Dins Day celebrations have raised nearly $2 million in support of the university.

Anne Fleming ‘96, Executive Director of Development Communications at Furman, says the previous events have raised the bar and set the stage for a more aspiring campaign this year.

The goal for 2017 is to secure more than 2,000 gifts through donor challenges in a 24-hour period.

“We are very proud to launch our third ever day of Furman spirit and giving, and we intend to make it even bigger and better than last year,” she said. “In addition to our on-campus and online celebrations, we have regional events in Greenville, Atlanta, Charlotte, Charleston, Nashville, Washington, D.C., Columbia and Boston. We are also hosting a major lunchtime event in downtown Greenville at the Nose Drive restaurant on Main Street. We encourage all Furman alumni and friends to come out and join us for some PalaDIN fun on April 25.^”

Fleming said the day will be filled with opportunities for alumni and friends to display their Paladin Pride, and philanthropy will continue to be one of the central themes of the day. The goal for 2017 is to secure more than 2,000 gifts through a daylong series of donor challenges via email and social media.

“Dins Day” is derived from the university’s mascot, the Paladins. The event is modeled after similar 24-hour spirit and fundraising blitzes taking place at colleges and universities around the country.
