The Man Behind ‘America’s Wine Superstore’

The small wine shop that David Trone ’77 and his brother, Robert, opened 25 years ago has developed into a $2.5 billion enterprise with 149 “Total Wine & More” stores in 20 states. The Wall Street Journal (subscription required) published an article on David Trone, who talked about becoming America’s Wine Superstore and offered tips about how to find the best wine deals. Trone graduated from Furman and has served on the university’s Board of Trustees. The Trone Student Center at Furman is named for Trone and his wife, June, in honor of their naming gift.
