“The Commissioner of Dread,” a poem by Furman English professor Bill Aarnes, was selected as poem of the day by Verse Daily.  According to the poetry daily site, it republishes “one new poem a day from fine literary magazines and books” in an effort to promote poets and their publishers.

Dr. Aarnes will retire from the faculty on Aug. 1 after teaching at Furman since 1981.  He has published two collections of poems—Learning to Dance (1991) and Predicaments (2001)—both published by Ninety-Six Press. Over the years he has had poetry published in The Southern Review, The American Scholar, and Poetry. Recent poems have appeared in Main Street Rag, Shark Reef, and Red Savina Review.
