Clint Dempsey played soccer at Furman in the early 2000s.

Clint Dempsey’s road to soccer stardom began in Nacogdoches, Texas, and ran through Furman University.  Since his days at Furman, Dempsey has earned MLS Rookie of the Year honors, played at the highest levels of European soccer, and currently serves as captain of the U.S. National Team.  After returning to MLS and the Seattle Sounders this summer, The Seattle Times wrote about what makes Dempsey one of the best and most creative soccer players in U.S. soccer history.
