Jonathan Bloom discusses wasted food

GREENVILLE, S.C.—Jonathan Bloom, author of American Wasteland: How America Throws Away Nearly Half of Its Food (and What We Can Do About It), will speak on the Furman University campus Wednesday, March 27 at 6:30 p.m. in Shaw Hall of the Younts Conference Center.

His lecture, “Why We Waste Food, Why It Matters, and What We Can Do About It,” is free and open to the public.  It is sponsored by Furman’s Shi Center for Sustainability, Edible Upcountry Magazine and Greenville Forward.

Bloom’s talk at Furman will focus on the amount of food that is wasted in America today. Following his lecture, a panel will discuss food waste issues in Greenville.

Bloom is a freelance journalist and food waste expert who writes the blog “Wasted Food.”  His work has appeared in the New York Times, Washington Post, Boston Globe and  Newsweek, among others. A Boston native, he lives in Durham, N.C., with his family.
