The Furman Rugby team will open the all-important spring season Saturday with an 11 a.m. game against the Citadel at Roberts Field on the Furman campus. The first Citadel-Furman rugby game was played in fall, 1998 with the Paladins capturing a 26-5 victory in Charleston. Furman leads the series 21- 10. Furman has played the Citadel 31 times, more than any other opponent. The squads enjoy an intense but very friendly rivalry.

The Paladins dropped a three-point decision to the Bulldogs last November in the semi-finals of the Palmetto Tournament.

The team is coming off a 13-8 fall record, which included 7s play. The 2013 Paladins are an extremely young bunch. The squad is composed of 8 freshmen,7 sophomores, 3 juniors and 1 senior.

Admission is free.
