Remembering the Wilmington Ten

Even though 2010 Furman graduate Andrew Barnhill was a native of Wilmington, N.C., it took him a long time to hear the infamous story of the Wilmington Ten, a group of individuals known for their wrongful prosecution and arguably unconstitutional imprisonment for nearly a decade. In an op-ed piece for Politic365, he wondered why he had to move away to college before he could read and discuss his city’s history in a classroom?

Barnhill is currently a graduate student and instructor at Duke University, and Chairman of Young Democrats for the 7th Congressional District of North Carolina.
