Providing a helping hand on MLK Day

An Upstate community got some much needed attention this week thanks to a group of Furman students. In observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday, more than 130 students spruced up houses in the new Washington Heights community in Greenville County.
The students worked several hours painting homes and cleaning up trash in the area. They also helped to set up a community garden. The neighborhood is part of the Poinsett Highway Corridor.
All six of Furman’s fraternities, as well as other members of the student body, were involved in the work. The event was sponsored by Furman’s Heller Service Corps.
